Kareena Vaswani shares her insights on how ‘The Museum Memories Project’ has profoundly influenced her belief in the power of design as a tool for cultural preservation and storytelling.
The oral history digital documentation project aims to preserve and celebrate personal stories of museum visitors and their connection with artefacts. It has made Kareena aware to the depth and richness of cultural heritage and its impact on her design sensibilities.
The project’s emphasis on storytelling and emotional connection has inspired her to incorporate more narrative elements into her designs, creating a book that draws on her family’s roots – her Sindhi grandparents who migrated to India after the Partition.
Kareena explains how the project helped her reflect, introspect and draw upon the songs her grandparents wrote during the Partition, and how she has been able to infuse her work with a unique blend of tradition and modernity, crafting designs that resonate on a deeper level with her audience.

The oral history is a perfect form of keeping the collective memory of the human race alive. It’s is more often than not termed as Mythos(Greek civilization coined it). These oral histories in the form of songs, ballads and historical glimpse gathering help us strengthen the reality of times we live in with more relevant documents and keeps not just dates and event but also the mood of the time their emotional anchors such a collective joy, suffering, fear and elation all bundled together.
